1. Knock Down Walls & Bring in the Outdoors
Open layouts can completely transform a kitchen, adding aesthetic appeal as well as increased functionality. In this modern farmhouse remodel, we knocked down a wall between the kitchen and dining area in order to create one cohesive space with a showpiece quartz island for extra seating, storage, and counterspace. We also added a custom window over a beautiful new farmhouse sink in order to invite natural light into the space. The view into the outdoors is reminiscent of a framed painting.
2. Embrace the Right Layout
Every space is unique and comes with its own positives and challenges. What works for one kitchen may not be right for another. For example, we typically love showpiece kitchen islands. But in the below space, the previous island only added to the kitchen’s cluttered feeling. Instead, we removed the island and added a quartz peninsula with seating to maximize the space. We also drew attention to what we loved: the beautiful high ceiling. Pendant lighting, tall cabinetry, and a sleek, contrasting hood vent all drew the eye upward, creating a sense of height and luxury.
3. Clean Colors & Sleek Lines
It’s no secret that lighter colors create a sense of space and openness. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go all-white. A clean color palette can consist of whites, creams, natural wood browns, and even pops of pattern or color. The trick is in how the colors interplay to create long, sleek lines that seem to never end. In the below remodel, we matched quartz countertops with a quartz backsplash. The way the stones interact creates an almost reflective effect. We added tile over the range for an unexpected shift in texture. A beautiful waterfall quartz island emphasizes the sense of movement and nature, especially against the backdrop of a large custom window. Tall cabinets elongate the space, and clever storage options like a built-in pantry and pull-out spice rack keep the space feeling decluttered. Matching the wood trim of the hood vent to the window trim and pantry adds a final refined touch to pull everything together.
